The Adam Project
THE ADAM PROJECT
Ryan Reynolds chooses another big-screen film, The Adam Project, where his character’s persona is identical to the role he played in Deadpool 1, 2, and 3, Red Notice and Free Guy. This role is not an acting stretch for Reynolds, but he plays Adam perfectly in The Adam Project, a time-traveling action-comedy. Click on this Netflix film, and you know what you are getting.
The Adam Project also has lots of well-known names – Jennifer Garner (Danny Collins), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), and Catherine Keener (Forever). Also, the movie includes a cute newbie actor kid, Walker Scobell, who adds the critical adorable, funny factor. If you want an exciting family-friendly movie for Saturday night, The Adam Project should keep all sci-fi fans engaged.
The plot is typical time-travel material. Adam in 2050 goes back to 2022 and meets himself at twelve years old. He misses his original time-traveling date, so all things change. Evil people from the future come looking for Adam. A lot of stuff happens in two different timelines. There are some decent action sequences accented occasionally with music from the sixties and seventies. Watch the trailer at the end, it practically tells you everything.
The special effects are flawless, although nothing you have not seen before. The weapons, ships, and flying strategies are all familiar but still fun to see.
For me, the most enjoyable part is the twelve-year-old Adam (Walker Scobell) curious about the older Adam (Ryan Reynolds). The younger Adam goes from lusting over his future body to eventually teaching the older Adam. Many instances of funny interactions between the two as there should be in a time-traveling action-comedy.
It is nice to see Zoe Saldana in a sci-fi movie without wearing alien makeup. Zoe is excellent as a fighter pilot without a jet. However, she is returning to alien makeup and is in Avatar 2, Avatar 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in the next two years. Zoe Saldana should make more movies without blue or green makeup on her face.
A bit of trivia: The evil company Sorian causing all the problems and destroying the world is in West Seattle. That’s not part of the story, but the backdrop from the Sorian accelerator is the Seattle skyline.
The Adam Project, a time-traveling action-comedy, is wholesome fun with excellent special effects. Familiar but a fun time-traveling movie.
